Armenia and Azerbaijan honour the fallen of the 44 day Karabakh War

Armenia and Azerbaijan have both marked the first anniversary of the start of the second Karabakh War with ceremonies honouring their fallen soldiers and citizens.

In Yerevan, prime minister Nikol Pashinyan laid flowers at the Yerablur Military Pantheon and knelt in front of the monument of fallen soldiers

A minute silence was marked across the country.

In Azerbaijan, the country also marked Remembrance Day with a one minute silence.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice president Mehriban Aliyeva led a march past of soldiers holding pictures of those fallen during the conflict.

Commemorative events were also held across the two countries.

It is estimated that over six thousand people died during the forty four days of fighting, most of them young men in their prime of life. Victims also included civilians, including a baby.
