Armenian captives in Azerbaijan send video message to relatives through ICRC facilitation

The International Committee of the Red Cross has facilitated communications between Armenian captives currently being held in Azerbaijan and their relatives back home in Armenia.

Armenian media sources, citing the ICRC Armenia head of communications, Zara Amatuni, said this was the first time this was possible

Amatuni said that Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan had the opportunity to contact relatives by phone, and the videos were made during recent meetings and passed on to families.

Dozens of Armenian soldiers remain in Azerbaijani detention for several months. Azerbaijan is refusing to grant them Prisoner of War (POW) status since it says they were involved in violent attacks against Azerbaijani soldiers and civilians after the 10 November ceasefire came into force.
