Armenian MOD announces six casualties as a result of 16 November clashes with Azerbaijan

The Armenian Ministry of Defence released a statement earlier today (19 November) announcing that six of its servicemen had been killed as a result of the border clashes on 16 November.

The six soldiers were identified as Senior Lieutenant Taron Sahakyan (born 1990), Junior Sergeant Meruzhan Harutyunyan (born 1991), Private Gurgen Sargsyan (born 1990), Junior Sergeant Artur Martirosyan (born 1998) and Private Davit Amiryan (born 1980). The identity of the 6th serviceman is still unknown. The ministry had previously announced just one casualty, but had added that the fate of 24 of its servicemen was still unknown.

For its part, the Azerbaijani MOD confirmed on 17 November that it had suffered seven casualties from the skirmishes earlier in the week which followed days of escalating tensions on the border with Armenia in what has been the deadliest clash since the end of last year’s war.
