The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov are meeting in Washington D.C. today Tuesday (27 June), for the first of three days of talks.
The talks will be the second round of talks at the foreign ministerial level in the American capital after a first round took place at the beginning of May.
Speaking in a press briefing on Monday (26 June), U.S. Secretary of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said that there are "a number of items [they] want to discuss".
He said, "they’re very sensitive diplomatic discussions that will take place here. We expect the talks will commence tomorrow, on Tuesday, continue through Thursday of this week. Secretary Blinken will meet with the foreign ministers from both Azerbaijan and Armenia. We’ll have more details as the week progresses."
"We continue to believe that peace is within reach and direct dialogue is the key to resolving the remaining issues and reaching a durable and dignified peace," he added.
