Klaar meets Aliyev in Baku to discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan peace

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus continued with his travels in the region and on Friday (15 July) met in Baku with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

A report on the website of the Azerbaijani president said that Toivo Klaar conveyed the greetings of the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel to President Ilham Aliyev who in turn expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked  they be reciprocated.  The website also said that at the meeting, "a broad exchange of views was held on issues related to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the signing of a peace agreement, the opening of communications, the landmine problem faced by Azerbaijan, and our compatriots who were lost during the First Karabakh War."

According to the website president Aliyev "emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements reached as a result of the meetings held in Brussels and fulfilling the obligations undertaken by Armenia according to the tripartite statement dated November 10, 2020."
