The prime minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, is in Georgia today (20 December), on a working visit.
The Armenian PM was met in Tbilisi airport by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani. Pashinyan held a private talk with the Georgian prime minister, Irakli Gharibashvili, where the two leaders reportedly discussed issues on the agenda of a regular sitting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Armenia and Georgia, aimed at further development and strengthening of bilateral trade and economic relations. Both PMs are expected to take part in the sitting of the Commission later today.
Pashinyan and Gharibashvili are reported to have expressed confidence that there is a “great potential for the expansion of economic ties between the two countries, and that efforts should be made to implement it in the best possible way”, and exchanged views on other areas of mutual interest.
The Georgian readout notes that the parties focused on the importance of joint efforts to address the existing challenges. Gharibashvili also highlighted that the "Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative" could serve to "promote peace and stability in the region, as democratic development, strong state institutions, open and transparent governance, economic progress can only be achieved through peace and regional stability".
