President Aliyev meets Russian representative for normalisation of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations in Baku

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with the Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for the normalisation of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, Igor Khovaev, in Baku on Tuesday (14 February).

The sides discussed the state of bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, and Aliyev praised the successful development of cooperation in various areas, according to a press release. "Noting the significance of high-level reciprocal visits, President Ilham Aliyev also stressed the importance of exchanges and cooperation at the level of the two countries' legislative bodies," the statement said.

The discussions at the meeting also centered on the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the negotiation process toward the peace treaty, which appears to be ongoing despite events on the Lachin Corridor.

"Igor Khovaev provided information on his visit to the region and the steps taken by Russia to support the negotiation process on preparing the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan," the press release continued.

On Friday (10 February), Khovaev met with the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan where they also discussed ongoing developments in the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation process.
